the slow-mo of our own widening gaze.

As the lab-tech lifted the sopping skin,

stared into the looming emptiness,

like a lover looking back, no one dared

remark on the absence we’d restored,

etched into our faces, as a dull glitter of resin

quivered in the basin, and was gone.
